Texas A&M football set to sport new look for opener versus Notre Dame

After quite some time of the same look during the Jimbo Fisher era, Texas A&M football is switching it up for the first game of Mike Elko's tenure.

Texas A&M football set to sport white helmets against Notre Dame in opener

Texas A&M football is really going all-out to make sure the opener against Notre Dame is as special as possible. With College Gameday rolling into town, ESPN's A-team calling the game, and a primetime slot on broadcast TV, this is already set to be one of the highest-exposure environments a program could ask for.

To add just that much fuel to the fire, it looks like the Ags are ready to roll out an alternate look for this opener against Notre Dame. They busted out a pretty awesome hype video to announce it before tweeting out a fuller look at the threads not long afterwards.

The Aggies haven't worn white helmets at home since the 2017 game against Alabama, which the Tide, who would go on to win the national championship against Georgia, won by only eight points. That game involved one of the most memorable 12th Man moments of all time when Cullen Gillaspia blocked a J.K. Scott punt out of the back of the end zone to score a safety for the Aggies.

The last time the Ags wore white helmets at all was the final game of the same year: a shootout in Charlotte, NC. That year's Belk Bowl against Wake Forest was a time of transition for the Aggies; the final game before the advent of the Jimbo Fisher era, which we now know will be bookended by this white-maroon-white look.

There are some obvious tweaks, however. The maroon facemask is the most notable one, but I'm really partial to the script "Aggies" right above the visor. This is a really awesome look, and I'm glad to see it make a return.
