Texas A&M football teases blackout uniforms for October matchup with LSU without revealing helmets
Texas A&M football fans have been clamoring for a return of the blackout uniforms for quite some time now—as long as they’re done right, of course. The alternates that the Ags wore in 2012 against Mississippi State were some of the best that they’ve ever had, while the Aggie Nights uniforms in 2015 were something of a disappointment.
Well, after a long hiatus, it seems that the blackout look for the Aggies is officially making a return. In a series of tweets yesterday, the Texas A&M football twitter account showed off several aspects of the new jersey.
You can see that, though the jersey is mostly black and white, there will still be maroon accents. This is part of what made the 2012 jersey so good-looking, in my opinion—they didn’t overly commit to the blackout and still incorporated the Aggies’ main color to an effective degree.
However, you can see that there is one important element that is not shown here: the helmet. That can either effectively tie together or ruin an alternate jersey combination; the Ags haven’t had really any truly bad-looking alternate helmets since joining the conference, though—and, in fact, they’ve at times had a great helmet paired with a very bad jersey.
I can only surmise that they are waiting to unveil the helmet at a later time because they’re planning something special for that as well—I doubt they’d be trotting out the normal maroon helmet with this, in other words.
Another thing that internet sleuths such as the erudite Robert Behrens have uncovered is that these alternates are slated to be worn against LSU. Even though it hasn’t officially been announced, apparel partners have gone ahead and put that information out there!
In any case, this is exciting stuff. The Aggies wore all of one alternate uniform during Jimbo Fisher’s tenure, so it’s good to have them back.
