Texas A&M football WR target Kelshaun Johnson pushes back commitment after complications due to Tropical Storm Beryl

In the grand scheme of things, when there's a catastrophic weather event going on, things like Texas A&M football recruiting tend to take a back seat. What's really important is making sure as many people as possible are safe and getting the community back on its feet as soon as possible.

Of course, though, this is a Texas A&M blog. So I will indeed be covering the recruiting angle.

One of the top receivers left on the board for Texas A&M is Hitchcock wideout Kelshaun Johnson. The speedster compares well to a guy like Ainias Smith, though he's a bit bigger and faster than #0.

Johnson was set to announce yesterday, but after the tropical storm rolled through, there were issues with regaining power in his town. He delayed the prospective announcement until today, but as the issues continued, he has now pushed back until next week.

This is a key recruitment for Mike Elko and Texas A&M football. This is not only due to the quality of prospect that Johnson is, but who the Aggies are facing off against.

After the Longhorns struck out on Dakorien Moore, Johnson became one of Steve Sarkisian's top targets. They have prioritized him in a big way following their recent whiff, but the Aggies have been one step ahead of Texas in many recruitments so far this cycle.

Still, though, with Johnson a big Aggie lean headed into the original announcement, you have to think that Texas will only redouble their efforts in the interim. Hopefully, Holmon Wiggins and Mike Elko can still pull out ahead in this key race.

Of course, most importantly is that Johnson and his family—as well as everyone in Hitchcock and more broadly affected by Beryl—is safe, so we don't begrudge the decision at all. We will be anxiously awaiting when he does decide to announce, however.
