Texas A&M football set for early kickoff vs. McNeese in game 2 of 2024; Aggies now know first three kickoff times

Sandwiched between two big games in Notre Dame and Florida—games in which Texas A&M football is slated to play in prime time—the Aggies are facing off against the McNeese Cowboys. It's great to have a game against a lower-division opponent between big matchups like this, but it's hardly likely to get you a prime time slot when it comes to TV decisions.

That idea has borne out, as it was announced yesterday that the Cowboys and Aggies will kick off at 11:45 AM on SEC Network on September 7. This odd kickoff time has to do with the fact that the SEC is exclusive with ABC/ESPN at this point, so they have more flexibility without having to work around the 2:30 PM CBS window.

The Aggies now know their kickoff times for each of the first three games. The opener against Notre Dame will be a 6:30 PM kick on ABC, McNeese will be 11:45 AM on the SEC Network, and Florida will be a 2:30 PM kick again on ABC. Despite the middle matchup not being the most prominent, the Aggies will still get a lot of national exposure in these first three weeks.

These will be opportunities for this Aggie team to flex their muscles in front of a bigger national audience. Even against McNeese, when the viewership will likely be lower, it'll be a let-off game after a highly-anticipated game 1 against Notre Dame, when A&M will be hosting College Gameday, and before a conference opener on the road against a Florida team that will already be desperate.

We're less than 100 days from the season finally beginning. Things are becoming more and more real—and I think that the Aggies are in for a special year.
