Texas A&M softball falls to Longhorns in extra innings; Aggies will face off with Longhorns in decisive game 3 tomorrow

For much of today's game, Texas A&M softball looked as though they had an inside track to going undefeated in this super regional. Even against the nation's top-ranked team in the Texas Longhorns, the Aggies looked like they had things well in hand for much of the day.

The Aggies had taken a 5-1 lead into the 6th inning, but that's when the potent Texas offense finally found their footing. The Longhorns put up 5 runs in the top of the 6th, and added another 2 for good measure in the 7th. Down 3, the Aggies needed something to happen—and that's exactly what they got.

Freshman Mya Perez picked quite the time for the first homer of her career. A three-run bomb in the bottom of the 7th pulled the Aggies even at 8, giving the Maroon and White new life.

Talk about clutch! Down to the final out, final strike of the game, Perez delivered in a huge way. The Aggies weren't able to add anything on to end the game in that inning, but pulling even was enough.

The eighth inning was all even, but the Longhorns got one across in the top of the 9th. A throwing error from shortstop to home off a short-hopper allowed a Texas runner to score from third, and the pressure was now on the Aggies.

A&M got two runners on, but this time, they were unable to convert. The final score was 9-8, Longhorns, setting up a decisive final game for tomorrow.

If things don't turn out the way Aggie fans want tomorrow, this is still a team that has accomplished so much this year. Two years ago, this program was in the dirt, and now here they are taking the top team in the nation to the wire in a super regional. Trisha Ford has built this team into a contender, and their future is so bright.
