Texas A&M softball leverages a huge night at the plate to take down #1 overall seed Texas in game 1; Now one win away from advancing, ending Longhorns' season

Trisha Ford's #16 Texas A&M softball team just rolled into Austin, the home of the top-ranked team in the entire nation, and pulled off a stunner in game one of the super regional. The Aggies jumped out to a huge 5-0 lead early in the game and held a potent Texas offense scoreless through five innings, thanks to clutch plays like this one:

As things turned out, it was a huge deal that the Aggies were able to put up such a big number, as the Longhorns came roaring back in the sixth inning, cutting the lead to just one run. That cushion was all the Aggies would need, though, as A&M finished off the 'Horns 6-5.

Aggie softball is now one win away from eliminating their rival, taking down the number one overall seed, and most importantly, the Women's College World Series. The job is not done, but this win is further, clear evidence of what a turnaround Trisha Ford has done in College Station. The Maroon and White faithful are tuned into this softball program in a way that they haven't been for years, and it's all because of the success Ford has had in her two short years.

It's hard to overstate what a win tomorrow or Sunday would mean to this Aggie softball program moving forward. The Longhorns came into this game confident that they were moving on without a hitch—not without reason, either, as they are clearly one of the best teams in the entire country. It's one thing to say it, and another to actually get it done, though: and now it's the Aggies who hold the advantage. Whether they can parlay it into a series win is another question.
