Three reasons Texas A&M football beats Missouri: Defense will force a big takeaway

Over the last few weeks, Texas A&M football’s aggressive defense has borne a lot of fruit in the turnover department. There’s a pastry pun there, but I won’t try to make it.

In the last four games, the Aggies are +8 in turnovers, and +6 for the entire season. Through five games last year, they were -4; in 2022, they were -3; in 2021, they were -5. In fact, not since 2017, where they were a +8 through five games, have they been this prolific at taking the ball away from opponents.

I think that trend continues against Missouri. The Tigers have only committed two turnovers all year, but a rushed and harried Brady Cook, playing against this aggressive Elko defense, could be a recipe for trouble.

As Scourton did last week, I think someone from the defense will step up in a key moment to either seal the game or turn the tide. As the personnel settles into the system more and more, they become an even taller task for opponents to deal with.
