3 takeaways from Texas A&M football vs. Florida: We're about to have weeks of QB controversy

This will be exciting!

As I mentioned, the Aggies started Marcel Reed in this one following what was, according to Elko's postgame, a reaggravation of an existing shoulder injury to Conner Weigman. Reed, of course, led the team to victory, utilizing his legs as well as his arm.

Since precious few people watched last week's game, and many of those who did wrote the results off entirely given the competition, this has, as was inevitable, already started the calls for Reed to be the full-time starter.

Given the fact that this is an injury that has a chance to come with an extended recovery period, Reed could be the starter the next week or two. Even if he's not, given that it's a home game against Bowling Green and a neutral-site game vs. Arkansas, there will be a crowd that disregards any good result that Weigman puts up.

The fact of the matter is this: Weigman, when he is on, can place the ball better than any quarterback on this roster, and most quarterbacks in the country. He does not have the the speed that Reed does (though he can run more than people give him credit for), but he more than makes up for it with his ability to throw.

The specter of the Notre Dame game, though, will hang over him until it doesn't. That likely means stringing together solid outings against teams like Missouri, LSU, and more.

For now, settle in for an inordinate amount of arguments about who QB1 should be. I don't have much doubt on that answer, personally, but the question has now been thrust into the limelight.
