Three takeaways from Texas A&M football vs. Arkansas: Scourton is catching his stride

There were some questions coming into this game about the dominance of the defensive line. Through four games, the sack and TFL numbers were not quite what fans were expecting up until this point.

In particular, fans were hoping to see more out of no. 11. Nic Scourton, the offseason’s premier transfer and former Purdue DE, was highly-touted in the offseason, but had yet to register a sack before Saturday’s game.

What’s more, some disgruntled fans were waxing eloquent about the fact that he sometimes was caught up in the wash on outside runs. It’s not untrue that the Aggies’ opponents would have success in running outside from time to time, and that was sometimes due to the fact that Scourton took a bad angle.

Well, consider those worries mostly assuaged after today. Scourton just had a beast of a game against the Razorbacks.

His final statline was eye-catching: 2 sacks, 4 TFLs, and 1 pass defended—not to mention a forced fumble to seal the game. This is the kind of performance that Aggie fans were hoping to see out of Scourton—let’s hope this is a springboard for him going forward.
