Three Texas A&M baseball players who need to deliver in College World Series final for Aggies to bring home first-ever baseball championship

Texas A&M baseball will be playing for the College World Series championship, starting tomorrow. This is by definition the biggest moment in the history of this program. Players stepping up on a stage like this is how they go from a great story into a legend.

The Aggies will need some players to step up in that fashion if they hope to overcome this Tennessee team. Tony Vitello’s Volunteers are an eminently talented squad, and one that has not had to deal with all the injuries that the Aggies have struggled with thus far in the postseason.

Even so, it is the Aggies who are undefeated in the postseason. The Vols dropped a game to Evansville in the Super Regional and probably should have lost one more to Florida State were it not for a no-call on a check swing.

That said, the Ags in no way can take this matchup lightly. We need to see a huge series out of several players on this roster if the Ags are to hoist the trophy here in a few days. Here are three that come to mind.

Texas A&M baseball players who need to step up to deliver a championship: Ryan Prager

Prager looked to have reclaimed his form as an ace on the mound this postseason after struggling mightily in the back half of the regular season. He has performed admirably so far in the tournament, but it was the Aggies’ only matchup with Tennessee this year where he last looked to not be in peak form.

Now, some of that doubtless has to do with the power hitting that the Vols have all over their lineup. But Prager has shown an ability to shut down teams with high-powered bats before when he’s on the top of his game.

He will have to summon that A-plus stuff in his start for Texas A&M baseball in order to give them a leg up in this series. When he’s going, there’s no one on the Tennessee roster that can match him—the question is whether he can get going against this powerful Volunteer lineup.
