Fall camp position battles for Texas A&M football - CB

Elko’s greatest recruiting job of all no doubt came at the cornerback position. Thinking about where the Aggies were at corner in the bowl game until now will tell you just how much of a transformation the roster has undergone here.

For the last three years, the Aggies only every had two—maybe three—guys at a time that you felt comfortable with playing at CB. Now, there are at least six that I can think of off the top of my head: BJ Mayes, Dezz Ricks, Terry Bussey, Will Lee, Tyreek Chappell, and Donovan Saunders.

Figuring out who will trot out with the starting defense will be no small task with such a talented lineup of players at the position. I’d slot Mayes as one of those, but who will man the other side?

If I were forced to pick, I’d either pick Chappell or Lee. Those are two very different players, of course, with Lee being a long and rangy type and Chappell being on the shorter side.

That said, don’t sleep on Ricks or Bussey either—and Saunders really acquitted himself well in the spring game. As I said with safety, Elko has built not only depth but versatility at this position, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Ags utilize all of these guys in equal measure.
