Top-ranked Texas A&M baseball wins sixth-straight series against ranked team
Texas A&M baseball rolls against UGA but drops final game; Aggies have won six straight series, all vs ranked teams
Surprising absolutely no one, Texas A&M baseball is still on a roll. The Aggies have earned every bit of their rank of #1 in the nation over these past few weeks, winning in increasingly varied and often unbelievable ways.
Take, for example, the first game of today's doubleheader against the Georgia Bulldogs. As I wrote about in my preview, UGA is one of the best power-hitting teams in the nation, notching even more homers than the potent Aggie offense up until this point in the year.
Even so, it was still a huge surprise that the Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the Aggies in the first inning of play. That is not at all a recipe for success if you're the Aggies, suffice it to say.
Would it surprise you to know that this Texas A&M baseball team run-ruled the Bulldogs in that same game by the 7th inning?
This is what I mean by winning in increasingly unbelievable ways. There is no world in which a team that goes down 9-0 in the first frame to a top-20 squad should win that game, much less end up outscoring their opponent by 10 runs!
I know baseball is a funny sport exactly for reasons like this, but it still boggles the mind. Try as I might to stick to my glum and pessimism about the general championship outlook of any Aggie program, this baseball team is making me a believer.
As I mentioned, they ended up dropping the second game of the doubleheader, 5-4. That marked only the second home loss of the year, but also the close to the sixth series in a row that they've won over ranked teams.
The Aggies have a midweek against Tarleton on Tuesday before traveling to LSU for a big time showdown next weekend. The lagging Tigers will be eager to knock off the Aggies, so A&M had better bring their A-game.
