Twice is nice! Texas A&M wins two national championships in as many days
Texas A&M wins titles on back-to-back days; Aggies begin to build out trophy case under Trev Alberts
As reported yesterday, Texas A&M Women’s Tennis brought home a hard-fought national championship after defeating the Georgia Bulldogs in Stillwater, OK. This is the first title in tennis history in College Station, and the team was welcomed home in huge fashion by awaiting fans.
Now, just one day later, their trophy will be joined by another. A member of the Texas A&M women’s golf team, Adela Cernousek, has won an individual golf national championship after she finished yesterday with a three-stroke lead over second place.
This was again a first for the Aggies, as no other member of the women’s golf team has ever won an individual national championship. These are the kinds of firsts I can get used to!
As I said yesterday, this is quite the situation for new Athletic Director Trev Alberts to step into. Two first-time national champions, even if they are in the “country club sports,” (I say this to head off a possible dismissal by rival fans—this is a huge achievement for these ladies!) is nothing to sneeze at.
That’s not to mention that Aggie softball and baseball are both real contenders to make some noise in their respective postseasons. Basketball and football have extremely bright futures as well, but there’s a longer way to go in Reed and Kyle than there seems to be in Olsen or Davis.
Again, a huge congratulations to Adela and the entire Aggie women’s golf team, as well as the A&M women’s tennis team. This accomplishment should not be undersold by anyone! Way to go, ladies.
