Upset alert: Tracking the most dangerous trap game for every SEC team in 2024
Trap games for every SEC team - Texas Longhorns
I could have just as easily picked Arkansas for this one, but I’m going to go with the Kentucky Wildcats, who will roll into Austin the week after the Longhorns visit Fayetteville. Given how Texas was treated in their previous visit to play the Hogs, that game may be a bit more of a point of focus for Sark and company than it would be otherwise.
Kentucky, though, is a different story. I think this is one that many Texas fans are overlooking simply because of the brand name—which is fair, in one sense. But to those who haven’t been playing in the SEC over the last few years, they don’t get how tough of a matchup the ‘Cats can be.
Stoops always brings a tough-nosed defense, which looks to once again be the case in 2024. Deone Walker is a bona fide first round-level talent on the defensive line; this won’t be a team that’s easy to run on, no matter how highly-touted your offensive line is in the preseason.
On the other side of the ball, I’m not so sure that Texas is suited to hold up against the kind of ground-and-pound, physical style that Stoops plays on offense. No, it’s not explosive in the slightest, but the Wildcat OL should be underestimated at your own peril. I’d lean towards the Longhorns pulling this one out, but between road rivalry games, this could be a letdown spot.
