Upset alert: Tracking the most dangerous trap game for every SEC team in 2024
Trap games for every SEC team - Tennessee Volunteers
I had a tough time picking one for Tennessee. Their schedule sets up nicely in a lot of respects; though they have both Alabama and Georgia to contend with, neither of those games are ones that the team would overlook, obviously.
There’s no spot on this slate where there’s an obvious trap game candidate that leaps out like it did with OU and Ole Miss. Florida is the only other candidate I considered, coming right before the Third Saturday in October, but given the bad blood there and the revenge factor, I don’t think the Vols will be overlooking that game.
The only spot where they might stumble is against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Lebby and State will likely be looking for a signature win in his first season after what will likely be a tough year record-wise. This will certainly be an entertaining combination of offensive styles, and if the Vols don’t bring their best stuff on the defensive end, they could be caught sleeping.
I wouldn’t say that it’s likely that this one ends up materializing, but you never know. Maybe the Bulldogs will be better than we all think—or maybe Tennessee will be overlooking them more than I’m even predicting here.
