Texas A&M football: Rueben Owens has HUGE run to get the White team on the board in Aggies' spring game

Late in Texas A&M football's Maroon and White spring game, the White team, despite being quarterbacked by Conner Weigman, was having trouble getting their offense going. A lot of that had to do with the presence of Nic Scourton, who was absolutely demolishing every play that he was a part of, whether run or pass.

There was a marked difference in the times when Scourton was on the field and off. He was taking a rest in the fourth quarter, and the White team was able to strike:

The acceleration and top-end speed that Owens showed on this play is next-level. It reminds you why he was rated as a five-star coming out of high school.

Last year was a bit of a struggle for Owens. Out of the three backs who took the majority of the snaps, his YPC average was by far the worst; Daniels and Moss both averaged over five, and he averaged less than four.

Despite that, his supreme athletic gifts were on display plenty of the time. He had some issues running through contact, but he showed an ability to catch the ball well out of the backfield and his top speed easily left guys behind.

The hope for many Aggie fans is that he would take another step this offseason. If this spring game is any indication, it looks like he has done just that. He ran through contact well, and plays like this show his ability to break a possession open for a score.

Like I said, Scourton wasn't on the field for this game, but it was still against several high-quality defenders out there. Owens was able to accelerate past all of them and house this carry.
