SEC QB Tier list: C Tier

Moving along to the C Tier, we have guys who are either unknown in an intriguing way or decidedly mid.

Brock Vandagriff. C. brock. . Kentucky Wildcats. Brock Vandagriff. 528. . . player

A former five star, Vandagriff apparently got tired of waiting his turn down in Athens and sought greener pastures up in Lexington. He only registered 18 pass attempts all of last year as a redshirt sophomore, so there's not much data on him in college.

Wildcat fans are hoping he can live up to his lofty high school ranking behind center up in Lexington. I'm not sure the success rate on former five-stars who wash out at their first stops is at their final destinations, but it can't be great.

graham. player. . Graham Mertz. . Florida Gators. . Graham Mertz. C. 526

Remember when everyone freaked out because Mertz completed like sixteen passes in a row when he was at Wisconsin? Why did everyone do that?

Mertz isn't awful, but he's not great. He will probably be artificially knocked down a few rungs due to the rough schedule the Gators will face this year, to be fair, but I still don't think he can hold off DJ Lagway for the whole season.

. Arkansas Razorbacks. Taylen Green. 524. taylen. . . C. Taylen Green. player

Green looked great in the Arkansas spring game, but that is about the only data we have on him. Like Mertz, he will be shouldering a tremendous burden this year, as the Hogs will almost certainly be a train wreck against the schedule they face, but he has got some potential.

Of course, like I say, this is all judging from the spring game, which could end up being, in the final analysis, completely useless. So maybe I'm wrong!

Blake Shapen. player. blake. Blake Shapen. 530. . . Mississippi State Bulldogs. . C

Shapen is a known commodity after booking some time down in Waco, but as the Bears and Bulldogs continue their strange QB shuffle, he is now in Starkville. He's got some talent as a pocket passer, but is probably best described as a "game manager."

Of course, Lebby's system can make things very easy on quarterbacks, so maybe Shapen can make some hay for the Bulldogs. I wouldn't count on him being a true difference-maker, though.
