Texas A&M Football Could Put Finishing Touches on Secondary Haul With Stud DB Transfer From Auburn

Texas A&M football has had a huge need for talented defensive backs for what seems like far too long now. The big time recruits they have landed back there, especially at the corner position, have failed to reach the heights that were imagined by fans when they signed, though some have come close. Aggie fans are hoping that current commit Terry Bussey will buck that trend if the Aggies can close the deal on his recruitment.

In any case, this has led to a huge issue when it comes to defending the pass more often than not. The 2022 defense for Texas A&M football was very proficient in this regard, but pass defense has been a huge bugaboo for this team nearly every other year.

Mike Elko is looking to change that in the transfer portal. He already has three defensive backs committed, and some recent news has Aggie fans dreaming of a bombastic close at the position.

Auburn's Keionte Scott, one of the best defenders for the Tigers, has entered the transfer portal. Scott played safety most of this last year, but has the skills to be a shutdown corner. In fact, from what you read on message boards, it looks like the Tiger fans were counting on Scott to play that role for them in this upcoming year.

Their beat reporters are mentioning that it may not all be done and dusted, and that the Tigers still have a chance. Aggie fans heard similar things about Walter Nolen from those close to the program, of course. If Scott does remain in the portal, I believe the Aggies have a great shot.

Elko hired Wesley McGriff as his defensive backs coach not long ago. Where was McGriff previously? Auburn. I believe those two working in tandem could land a talent such as Scott. His familiarity with McGriff and his ability at a position of need for the team would make this a logical landing spot for him.

If the Aggies can land the plane on this one, it would be massive. Elko has already done so much to turn the defensive backfield from an area of concern into an area of strength, and this would cement that turnaround. Aggie fans should keep a close eye on this one, as it would be a huge coup.
