Will Dallas Cowboys regret decision to pass on Texas A&M football's Edgerrin Cooper in the first round?

I know this is a Texas A&M site, but as a Dallas Cowboys fan, I take no pleasure in asking the following question: will the Cowboys regret passing on Edgerrin Cooper with their first round selection?

America's Team ended up going with a tackle, Tyler Guyton, out of Oklahoma (despite Bill Belichick's advice). There's no doubt that offensive tackle was a position of need for the Cowboys, and they made sure to address that. I understand that piece of things.

However, when you consider what ended the Cowboys' season, this decision should maybe give fans some pause. Despite underperformance from the quarterback, it wasn't lack of pass protection that lost that Wild Card game for the Cowboys—it was a total inability to stop the Green Bay attack, particularly Dallas nemesis Aaron Jones.

Now, that same Green Bay team that knocked you out of the playoffs could have just taken your lunch money with this selection. Though I understand the logic behind the Guyton pick, and I don't really hate it as a Cowboys fan, I would have rather they addressed the middle of their defense with their first round choice.

I know that Coop was a fringe first-round guy in most mocks, but especially after trading back to the 29th pick, I thought there was a real shot for them to end up choosing him. It didn't feel like there was ever much shot of them trading up from 56, even after they swapped first-rounders with Detroit and added a third, so it was 29 or bust for Coop in Dallas.

Regardless, we'll just have to wait and see how this question gets answered. With Leighton Vander Esch retiring and Micah Parsons almost full-time at defensive end, not to mention the free-agent stagnation we continue to see out of the Cowboys brass, this could prove to be a regrettable move on their part.
