SEC power rankings after week 1 - 13: Vanderbilt
The Commodores did what they needed to do against Charleston Southern, dominating them en route to a 45-3 victory that was a shutout most of the way. I would have liked to have seen just a little bit more dominance, but the 'Dores only punted once in the first half.
In any case, though, the Commodores probably should have looked a little bit stronger against this level of competition— Charleston Southern is an even worse team than Alabama A&M. I'm not going to overly penalize or reward teams for results against an opponent of this caliber, so they're certainly not moving up for it.
There was not much explosiveness here from the Commodores in the slightest, but that's not their game in the first place. They were highly successful down to down in this one, picking up yardage very consistently.
Their defensive front also caused a lot of problems for the Buccaneers, which is what you want to see. Vandy will face off against Virginia Tech next week and then South Carolina after that, so we'll have a nice little round-robin between those three teams early on in the year.
