Power ranking the SEC after week 12: #5 - South Carolina

If it weren’t for a few plays here and there against LSU and Alabama, this would be a complete dream season for the Gamecocks. Carolina was a play away from beating both of those teams; if they had managed that, they’d have already clinched a spot in Atlanta and a solid contender for the College Football Playoff.

Sometimes, though, that’s just not how the cookie crumbles. The Gamecocks still have an outside shot at the Playoff if a lot of things break right, but that’s a big if.

Even so, you can see that Shane Beamer is building something really special in Columbia. LaNorris Sellers keeps getting better every single week, and though guys like Rocket Sanders and Kyle Kennard will be gone after this year, Sellers and Dylan Stewart look to be staples in Columbia going forward.

Shane Beamer has something to build on here, by all appearances. I say that, though, and think about the fact that something very similar was said after their furious close to the 2022 season. Hopefully for Gamecock fans, this is a bit more sustainable going forward.
