Power ranking the SEC after week 12: #14 - Mississippi State

The dreams of bowl eligibility are long gone for Jeff Lebby’s squad, but they have two games left to pull off an upset that might give them an increased measure of hope headed into next year. Missouri visits town this upcoming week and then it’s a trip to Oxford for the Egg Bowl.

The odds are quite low that the Bulldogs pull off an upset in either one of those games, but if they were to do so, it would be against Missouri. The Tigers are coming to Starkville off of another road game against South Carolina that was hugely deflating emotionally, and MSU will be coming off of a bye.

Of course, MSU is ranked this low in the power rankings for a reason. They just don’t have the skill talent yet to be where they need to be in order to compete in this conference yet.

I think State fans probably feel good about where the program is headed under Lebby and have resigned themselves to the fact that the wins just aren’t coming this year; however, they can’t get demolished by either team down the stretch. They need to be competitive—can they accomplish that much?
