Power ranking the SEC after week 12: #12 - Vanderbilt

Vandy got a week off after their worst performance thus far this year against South Carolina. The Commodores are still reeling after a 21-point loss to the Gamecocks, by far their biggest deficit yet in the season.

Now at 6-4, the ‘Dores close things out with a game at LSU and home against Tennessee. The game in Death Valley all of a sudden looks a lot more gettable than it did just a few weeks ago, especially when you consider the Tigers’ weaknesses against running quarterbacks. That’s an extremely interesting one to watch for this weekend.

They’ve clinched bowl eligibility, though, which is more than a lot of people could have hoped coming into the year. But for a team that was 5-2 at one point to close things out going 1-4? That can’t feel good for Vanderbilt fans.

That’s why challenging LSU and/or Tennessee down the stretch would be huge in the story of this year for Diego Pavia and company. They’ve already accomplished so much, but just one more big win would put them over the top.
