Tiers are beginning to crystallize in the SEC through four weeks, but upsets happen all the time.

Power ranking the SEC after week four: 12 - Texas

The Arch Manning seesaw continues apace, as he slung slightly fewer passes directly into the dirt this week, leading to Texas fans once again kicking their feet and squealing about his potential. Of course, this came against Sam Houston State, who is worse than about half of the FCS, so you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Things are so bad right now that the official Texas football account tweeted a video of Arch being very conspicuously not flagged for a very conspicuous taunting penalty on a three-yard touchdown run, flexing on a random player who happened to be in his sightline. I'm not sure this clear attempt to manufacture good vibes does a lot to dissuade some of the questions about what's going on in Austin, but some social media manager somewhere apparently does.

The Texas defense looks like they're a good enough unit, though. I'll be interested to see how they hold up against the Florida run game with Jaden Baugh in two weeks (if Billy Napier decides to actually give him the ball, I mean), and I'm still not convinced that they are nearly as good in the secondary, but they've done what they needed to do for the most part against the worst the FBS has to offer over the last three weeks.

The Longhorns are about to play away from home for the next four games: at Florida, Red River, Kentucky, and Mississippi State, and right now I think they stand a good shot at losing two of those, at least. With a trip to Georgia still upcoming, as well as a visit from the Aggies, even one could doom their currently-quite-dim College Football Playoff hopes.
