Power ranking the SEC after week 6 - 5: Oklahoma

The Sooners took care of their business this week, dismantling one of the worst teams in the FBS in the Kent State Golden Flashes. OU won 44-0, which is about what you hope to see when a backup quarterback gets a start in a game like this.

The competition will ratchet up this weekend against the Longhorns in Red River, of course. Most are assuming that Hawkins will be the starter for OU in Dallas, but there's been some talk through the grapevine that Mateer could be ready to go.

The lines that Vegas has set certainly suggest that it won't be OU's Heisman candidate taking the snaps in the Cotton Bowl, but if it is, then this is a team that should roll the Longhorns. Hawkins makes this a much closer game, as he looked absolutely lost last year in this matchup.

Mateer's presence is absolutely vital for this team's championship hopes, so OU fans are crossing their fingers that he's back as soon as humanly possible. This week may be too much to hope for, but you never know.
