Power ranking the SEC after week seven: New team lays claim to the top spot as several contenders slide

Another weekend, another wild slate in the SEC. Though it wasn't as upset-filled as last week, it was still a patently entertaining cadre of games in the nation's premier conference.

Whether it was Shane Beamer's Gamecocks taking the Crimson Tide to the wire or the Gators nearly knocking off the Tennessee Volunteers, it was an exciting weekend to be an SEC fan. Here's how we see the conference shaping up after last weekend's action.

Power ranking the SEC after week 7: #16 - Mississippi State

The Bulldogs showed some signs of life this weekend against Georgia, putting up a cool 31 points by the end of the game. However, it mostly came in garbage time off of a couple of big plays, and they were still outgained by nearly 200 yards in the game.

What I mean to say here is that I do consider State to be improved over where I had them slotted last week, but not enough to leap the team ahead of them. Jeff Lebby’s offensive approach is beginning to yield some fruit with the aforementioned big plays, as Michael Van Buren is hitting some of those downfield shots.

After a physical game against UGA, MSU will return home to play Texas A&M (coming off a bye, by the way) in what will no doubt be yet another physical contest against a dominant defensive line. No rest for the weary, I guess!
