Power ranking the SEC after week 9: #5 - LSU

Credit where credit is due: the Tiger defense has certainly made strides since the beginning of the year. Though they were sliced and diced by Marcel Reed’s zone read look, they were looking dominant for stretches earlier in the game.

Josh Pate called LSU the biggest wild card in the sport for the rest of the year, and I think we saw that on full display in Kyle Field. Nussmeier looked in complete control in the first half, and then totally flummoxed by Mike Elko’s halftime adjustments.

The turnovers really doomed the Tigers here, of course, as well as the inability to figure out Elko’s second-half defense. The ceiling remains pretty high for this squad, though, who has only one road game remaining this year.

The Bayou Bengals head into the bye before hosting Alabama in what will no doubt be one of the top games of the week. If they win out, they still have an outside shot to reach Atlanta, which is more than a lot of teams can say.
