Power ranking the SEC after week 9: #8 - South Carolina

This Gamecocks team is looking somewhat similar to a few Texas A&M football teams that Aggie fans have seen over the past couple of years: stellar defense and largely aimless offense. Now, that defense is good enough that it’s buoyed them into the top half of these rankings, but the offense puts a hard cap on things.

Unlike previous Texas A&M football teams, the skill talent just simply does not seem to be present for the Gamecocks where you feel as though the ceiling could be higher. This is simply a dysfunctional offense at the moment.

The Gamecocks will be coming off of a bye at home when they host the Aggies this Saturday. A win there would be absolutely massive for the Gamecocks, but they are staring a defense in the face that looks like their own kryptonite.

Unless SC had everything fall into place over the bye with regard to the pass game, I’m not sure it seems prudent to pick them in this one. They will be able to make some hay running the ball against some teams down the stretch, but for them to truly take the next step, there needs to be some consistency through the air.
