Power ranking the SEC after week 8: 15 - Kentucky
Aggie head coaching legend Mark Stoops was not able to pull off the upset thanks to his apparent lack of awareness of the personnel he had in the game in overtime, but even getting Texas to that point was much more than many fans had expected. Maybe we should have seen the mirage that was Texas's offensive output against OU and known there was a reckoning coming down the pike, but even so, few expected it to come in Lexington.
Of course, despite playing like the better team for most of the night— doubling up the Horns in yardage, notching a near-85-percent postgame win expectancy— the Wildcats lost the game. It took a heroic late drive to even push that game to overtime, which tells you about how tough of a go it was for Kentucky much of that game.
Still, if you kick that field goal on your first drive of the game, things could be different. As it stands, the Mark Stoops era in Lexington is running pretty ragged— though this coaching cycle may not be the one to make the move in for the UK decision makers.
Kentucky needs to win two games they're not supposed to down the stretch if they want to make it to a bowl. That is probably too tough of an ask at this point for the Wildcats, who seem destined to finish below .500.
