Power ranking the SEC after week 8: 14 - South Carolina
The Gamecocks’ season is going down the tubes at a pretty rapid pace. Carolina’s offense is chronically incapable of protecting LaNorris Sellers— it wasn’t great at times last year in this respect, but it became better as the year went on— this season, there’s been no real signs of progress.
That was exposed big time against Oklahoma, who were in Sellers’s lap all day during this game. He wasn’t able to escape very often, and when he did, he didn’t even make the play much of the time.
The defense for Carolina looked porous as well. Oklahoma hasn’t been able to run the ball all year, but they averaged nearly 5 yards per carry before garbage time against Shane Beamer’s crew— more than SC’s yards per attempt passing the ball, which speaks to the domination that OU put on display.
After starting the year as a top-15 team, it now looks like the path to a bowl game is near impossible for the Gamecocks. They have games against Alabama and Texas A&M still on the docket— they need to steal another game against an SEC team and beat Clemson at home to do it.
