Texas A&M football has had absolutely nothing handed to them this season, and that trend looks like it will continue into the postseason. The Aggies had to play all of their toughest games on the road this season, had to remain perfect in the win-loss column for a shot at the SEC championship, and have dealt with injuries to some of their most important players— and yet, they've persevered.
That perseverance will have to play in pretty strongly here down the stretch, as our final College Football Playoff bracket projection sees the Aggies getting no layups here in the final few games of this season. Texas A&M will have quite the gauntlet to get to a chance at a championship— but no one ever said it would be easy.
Final College Football Playoff bracket projection: Texas A&M will have extremely difficult path to national championship.
Here's how the final seeding should shake out:
Seed | Team |
|---|---|
1 | Indiana |
2 | Georgia |
3 | Ohio State |
4 | Texas Tech |
5 | Oregon |
6 | Ole Miss |
7 | Texas A&M |
8 | Oklahoma |
9 | Notre Dame |
10 | Alabama |
11 | Tulane |
12 | James Madison |
If this is how the bracket shakes out, this would have Texas A&M facing off with Alabama at Kyle Field in the first round of the playoff. Then, if they defeat the Crimson Tide, they'd have to face off with Georgia in the quarterfinals— most likely in either New Orleans or Miami.
If they win both of those games, as a gift for making it through the first two extremely difficult opponents, the Aggies would have the privilege of facing the Ohio State Buckeyes (in all likelihood) in the semifinals. Technically, their path would be one of Ole Miss, Virginia, or Ohio State, but I think it's pretty clear which of those three the Aggies would most expect.
In other words, if the Aggies are to make it to the national championship, they are going to have to go through Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State. There are perhaps no more preeminent college football brands over the last decade than those three, and the Aggies stand a really solid chance at having to face them all if this is indeed their path.
We'll have to wait and see, but if this is real, it's going to be no joke. The Aggies don't get the luxury of facing off with a middling Clemson squad or Arizona State— per the 247 Talent Composite, these are the three most talented teams in America that the Aggies will have to go through.
