Projecting Texas A&M spring game overreactions: Texas A&M's pass defense is a major concern

Texas A&M really has four players that are competing for snaps at the corner position: Dezz Ricks, Julio Humphrey, Rickey Gibson, and Brandon Arrington. There's an outside shot for a guy like Adonyss Currie or Jamar Beal-Goines, but those are the top four at the position from all available reporting.

With four top corners, fans may think that we should get a good idea of what the pass defense will look like this upcoming year— two players on each side to give us a glimpse of two possible tandems. However, that will not be the case in this one.

That is due to the fact that two of those four corners— Dezz Ricks and Rickey Gibson— are out for this game with injury, leaving only Humphrey and Arrington available. This is a boon in a way, as Aggie fans will get a chance to see what Currie and other young players, like Victor Singleton, can do when given some snaps.

However, it may artificially make the Aggies' pass defense look worse than it actually is. It's worth pointing out that both Arrington and Humphrey are on team Maroon, so that will be a fairer (if not fully-fledged) representation of what A&M is working with.

I've got Ricks and Gibson as my projected starters, though, so even that team may be second-string. Don't overreact if you see some Texas A&M defensive backs getting beat downfield— the lack of depth at the position needs to be considered first.
