Texas A&M football is quickly turning into a nightmare for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. Despite the high profile of the in-state power, the Aggies just keep seeming to swoop in and snag who they want right out from under the nose of Smart and company, and this latest commitment is another example of that.

The Aggies under Elko and Klein have had a habit of picking up their quarterback commit quite early in the cycle. They did it in 2025 with Husan Longstreet (despite an eventual flip to USC), and they did it this past cycle as well with Helaman Casuga.

The Aggie OC has a knack for identifying the signal caller he desires in his system pretty early on, and going all-in— a laudable strategy in a day where many choose to keep their options open, and one that has paid off. Klein just did it again with this latest commitment from 2027 QB Jayce Johnson.

Texas A&M snags another Georgia star after picking up top 2027 QB commit Jayce Johnson from Valdosta

Texas A&M has landed a highly-touted QB from right in Kirby Smart's backyard, beating out Tennessee, FSU, and other top programs.

Johnson is a massive-framed quarterback already even just entering his junior year, and is extremely athletic at the position. For all of those fans who were fretting about Klein's system benefitting dual-threat QBs more than pocket passers, Johnson is clearly from the former mold.

He's got plus arm strength to go along with it, as well as some notable accuracy, completing 67% of his passes as only a sophomore— notching 16 touchdowns to only 3 interceptions. He'll only get better from here, too, so this is pretty eyebrow-raising.

He's currently ranked as a top-3 quarterback in the class of 2027, and that's something we could see even raise as the years go on. This is the type of guy who could end up well within five-star territory, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen at all.

This is another massive get for Elko and Klein, and quite the cornerstone for the 2027 class. The Aggies have to close out this impressive 2026 cycle still, but this is one heck of a jumping-off point for the next one.
