The shockwaves are still emanating from Texas A&M baseball's decision to retain Michael Earley after the year that the program just had. It seemed like a certainty that the Aggies would be making a change at the top, given all the signals that were indicating that A&M was already vetting candidates behind the scenes.

There will no doubt be a massive amount of speculation over the days and weeks to come about just why the Aggies made this decision: whether it was due to a lack of interest, a lack of motivation to pay a buyout, or legitimate belief in Earley as the right guy to keep as the program goes forward.

One thing is for sure, though: this was a decision that would draw a heck of a lot of reaction out of a fanbase that was primed for a change. Some were not looking forward to it, and some are incensed that the Aggies have decided to stand pat.

Divisive move from Trev Alberts elicits polarized fan reaction from Texas A&M

Some were immediately cynical about some of the outlets that decided to suddenly cover the story:

Fans from around the country were of course opinionated, as was easily foreseen.

This may not all be bad news for Texas A&M, however. It's clear that the players are huge fans of Earley, so this could lead to a still-talented roster next year— one that hopefully will not be as plagued with injury.

Maybe it's that prospect that has some fans congratulating the move from Alberts— or maybe it's simply the notion that one year is not long enough to give a coach before moving on from him.

Of course, not everyone shares this sentiment.

And as was to be expected, rival fanbases, especially the one 90 miles to the west, began to have some fun at the Aggies' expense.

This is a controversial move, and one that will lead to a huge amount of discussion going forward, but there's not much to be done about it now. Only time will tell if this was the right move to make.
