After Texas A&M dismantled LSU in Death Valley, there was on course of action that the coaching staff needed to make top priority: flipping five-star LSU DL commit Lamar Brown, a Baton Rouge native who had the Aggies in second place when picking the Tigers earlier this summer. After the firing of Brian Kelly, that only became more urgent.

As you'd expect with this highly organized and effective recruiting staff, they are taking care of business on the trail. The Aggies, along with the Miami Hurricanes— who also were high on Brown's list— have reportedly been "pushing hard" for the top-ranked prospect in the nation (per Rivals) since Kelly was shown the door.

So just how prodigious are the Aggies' chances with Brown? It's been a time since we've heard about any real conversations between the two sides, but you can bet that things have been simmering under the surface.

While reports are emerging that the Aggies are attempting to capitalize on this uncertain moment for LSU and the future of the Tiger program, it's still going to be a herculean task to pluck a five-star, longtime Tiger commit from the heart of Baton Rouge. If something happens here, it will most likely have to happen in the shadows.

That's true if for no other reason than the public pressure that would be on a guy like Lamar if he decided to head elsewhere after having been pledged to the Tiger program for so long. Texas A&M has only one premier home game left on the schedule in their November 15 contest with South Carolina, so we'll have to monitor closely if he shows up in College Station for that one.

Steve Wiltfong, in discussing this possibility, maintained that Brown has always "envisioned himself as a Tiger," which doesn't seem to bode well for the Aggies here.

However, especially as the early signing period draws ever nearer, you can't rule anything out in recruiting. The biggest pitches will be made near the very end, so we'll see what happens then. Right now, it's more realistic than it has been in a while, but the Aggies still have work to do.
