Power ranking the SEC after week 8: #4 - Alabama

I know I’m not exactly making headlines here, but Kalen DeBoer is no Nick Saban. The Tide have now registered two losses within the state of Tennessee, which is one more than Saban had during his entire tenure with the Tide.

Jalen Milroe looked completely lost at times against the Vols, though he also showed the flashes we’ve come to expect out of him. Those flashes weren’t enough to overcome a suffocating Tennessee defense, though.

The Bama defense played their part, but they were unable to win the game for the Tide. Of course, you can only penalize a team so much for a close loss to a top team on the road, but I’ve got Alabama firmly outside the top 3 right now.

They have a chance to get things back on track when Missouri visits this Saturday. After that, a game against LSU is probably the most threatening thing left on the schedule, given Auburn and OU languishing in irrelevance at the moment. There’s still an opportunity for the Tide to make it to the playoff, in other words.
