Power ranking the SEC after week 8: #2 - Texas A&M

The Aggies emerge from Starkville as victors for only the third time since they’ve joined the SEC. As I wrote earlier last week, overcoming the dark magic of Davis Wade portends great things for this program.

They’ll have to play a little more coherently in order to beat the LSU Tigers, however. The past two games with Conner Weigman at quarterback have been uneven, taken as a whole, with the Missouri contest looking nearly perfect and several trouble spots showing up against Mississippi State.

Of course, the ceiling is eye-popping if he can get some consistency. He’s shown the ability to do that for stretches, and he’ll need to harness that against the Tigers, who are susceptible to the pass more so than the run so far this year.

The A&M defense, who sleepwalked through the first half against the Bulldogs, remains one of the most intimidating in the conference, notching incredible havoc numbers week in and week out. They’ll face their most daunting challenge of the year this weekend as the LSU offense rolls into town.
