SEC power ranking shakeup after week 8: Contenders emerging and pretenders exposed
Power ranking the SEC after week 8: #10 - Florida
Credit where credit is due: this Florida team really seems like they have something working. A week after pushing Tennessee to the brink, they come out and win decisively over Kentucky—a game that, just two or three weeks ago, I think most would have had penciled in as a loss for the Gators.
This is quite the rebound from earlier in the year, when this UF team looked completely listless, especially on the defensive side of the ball. They’re headed into their bye in a much better spot than I thought they’d be in a few weeks prior.
Of course, the rest of the slate still looks absolutely treacherous. Their next four games go like this: neutral site vs. Georgia, at Texas, LSU, Ole Miss. While none of those seem entirely unwinnable (as they may have not too long ago), none of them seem like they are likely wins.
This Gator team can surprise you, though. If Lagway keeps developing and the defense continues to improve, I could see a couple of those games going the Gators’ way—and that might be enough to save Napier’s job. Whether that’s something UF fans want, though, is another question.
