SEC Week 2 power rankings - 15: Florida
Welcome to the basement, Gators!
In all honesty, this is not a game that UF should have lost. It was their own lack of discipline that really got to them, exemplified well by the penalties that kept giving USF new life on their game-winning drive. A Gators DL pulled a Jalen Carter and spat in the face of a USF offensive lineman, gifting Alex Golesh’s team an extra 15 yards.
Brendan Bett just spit on a USF player and might have driven the final nail in Florida’s coffin.

It wasn’t just that, though. The Gators had several scores and big plays called back after penalties moved them backwards. That’s not the kind of play you hope to see out of a team that’s going into a coach’s third year.
I don’t want to say that this seals things for Napier, but it certainly is heading that way. The Gators have games against LSU, Miami, Texas, and A&M coming up— this could turn into 1-5 really quickly down in Gainesville.
That said, I was predicting doom for UF all last season, and it never quite came to pass. With a guy like DJ Lagway at quarterback, they could easily bounce back. I’m keeping a close eye on that home game against Texas as well as their trip to LSU this upcoming week— the Tigers’ victory against Clemson has lost a bit of its shine.
