Ole Miss pulls away from Oklahoma behind 300-yard passing game from Chambliss
Ole Miss' high-octane offense outplayed the stout Oklahoma defense this weekend, with the Rebels finding 431 yards of total offense en route to a 34-26 victory in Norman. Lane Kiffin's offensive line played tremendously, holding the best pass rush in college football to just one sack on the day, which allowed starting quarterback Trinidad Chambliss time to throw for 315 yards on the somewhat flimsy Oklahoma secondary.
The Oklahoma offense had moments of success, and rode two Xavier Robinson rushing touchdowns to an early fourth-quarter lead, but failed to string together sustained success โ running 27 fewer plays than the Rebels and being out-possessed by nearly 12 minutes. The Sooner offense had two drives in the final four minutes to tie the game up but failed to find the end zone and sealed the second loss of the season for Brent Venables' group.
With the win, Ole Miss feels very much in control of its playoff hopes โ with games against South Carolina, Citadel, Florida and Mississippi State standing between them and the end of the regular season. While the loss doesn't end Oklahoma's season it certainly makes things an uphill climb โ with games against Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri and LSU on the horizon.
