Texas A&M football attempting to fend off two elite programs to keep Noah Thomas in the fold

Texas A&M football fans got some dismaying news recently when Noah Thomas entered his name into the transfer portal. Though the Aggies have done more than enough to address the receiver position at this point in the portal— adding KC Concepcion, Micah Hudson, and Mario Craver— Thomas would have made this an elite receiving corps.

The reason that his addition would have been so key, however, is that Thomas would have fit in the lineup as a second or third option. He has obviously been in the number one slot for the Aggies this year, so it’s not hard to see how he may have viewed this development as a demotion of sorts.

That said, it’s also an opportunity, from another point of view. With less attention dedicated to him by opposing defenses, Thomas could rack up some pretty major numbers with his skillset. He hasn’t had that opportunity over the past couple of years thanks to the way that things have shaken out in Aggieland.

No doubt this is a big piece of what the Aggie coaches are talking to him about as they attempt to bring Thomas back into the fold. To do so, though, they’ll have to overcome pitches from at least two elite programs.

According to a recent report from On3, Thomas has heard from several proven programs who are attempting to get him on campus. Georgia and Miami have reached out to the Aggies’ top pass-catcher, looking to bring him in. Both of these schools have been selective and excellent in their portal pursuits, so this is a hefty task for the Aggie staff to overcome.

That said, I feel sure they’re more than equal to the task. By all accounts, Noah feels at home in Aggieland— only an hour or so from his hometown in the Houston area— and he’s got three years of history with the Aggies. His departure is by no means a sure thing at this juncture, even with the fact that he has entered his name into the portal in mind.
