Taurean York was one of the most reliable Texas A&M linebackers in school history, recording 229 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, and 6.5 sacks in his three-year career.
It seems he's already revealed his next NFL dream team, and it's no secret as to why. York was a two-year captain at one of the growing, relevant schools in college football, and it seems he wants to take his talents to Motown, to be coached by another former Aggie himself.
"Detroit, for sure. Dan Campbell is a Texas A&M guy. Grit is their identity—that’s what the ‘G’ stands for at A&M in G.R.I.N.D. A lot of similarities in how the programs are run. I like the Lions a lot."David Nuño of TexAgs
Texas A&M LB Taurean York is all-in on playing for the Detroit Lions
This makes all the sense in the world, knowing the Lions have one of the best coaches in the NFL. It was definitely a down year for the Lions, but they will no doubt be back in 2026.
Dan Campbell has quickly turned "Captain" Jack Campbell into one of the best LBs in the NFL, ranking the second-best LB on Pro Football Focus with a grade of 90.2. Campbell is also the eighth-best overall player in PFF's top 101 players from the 2025 season.
Other than injuries, Derrick Barnes has been a reliable linebacker for years. Alex Anzalone been a consistent defensive piece for a while. Malcolm Rodriguez quickly turned from a "Hard Knocks" favorite in his rookie season to becoming a full-time LB for Dan Campbell.
The only difference between York and Campbell (minus the NFL experience) is height. Campbell is 6-foot-5, 243 pounds. York is 5-foot-10, 227 pounds. York lacks the typical size for a linebacker, but he has speed and can read gaps lightning fast.
Still, Detroit is where linebackers thrive, and with York's attitude, Dan should save a spot for him in the draft right now.
