Texas A&M baseball hits exciting new gear as rivals suffer embarrassing losses

The Aggies really hung it on their midweek opponent, but some A&M rivals can't say the same.

Texas A&M baseball absolutely demolished the Lamar Cardinals in last night's midweek game, triumphing by a score of 25-5 in only seven innings at Blue Bell Park.

After a weekend series against the Penn Quakers that saw the Aggies score a total of only three runs in the first two games, there were a lot of concerns going around about the offensive production. With Caden Sorrell back in the lineup after missing the last two games, though, the Aggies looked like the elite hitting unit that they are, absolutely demolishing the Cardinals in a way that no one saw coming— though Lamar is a lower-level team, they beat the Texas Longhorns in fall ball, so they are no slouch.

An emphatic midweek win would be enough to make Texas A&M baseball fans happy in general, of course, but given the context surrounding it, this was especially sweet. A look around the league should tell Texas A&M fans that wins like this should not be taken for granted.

Texas A&M baseball demolishes Lamar in dominant midweek while rivals stumble

The Aggies were making quick work of the Cardinals in Blue Bell Park, but other highly-ranked teams were facing similar opponents around the country and struggling. The current no. 1-ranked UCLA Bruins suffered their second loss of the season with a stumble against the San Diego State Aztecs— this is somewhat significant for the Aggies, as they face the Bruins this weekend in Globe Life Park.

There was trouble nearer to home, as well. The most eyebrow-raising result was the Arkansas State Red Wolves taking down the no. 6 Arkansas Razorbacks by a 12-4 mark— a shocking result as far as win/loss, but the margin was also pretty eye-catching.

Then, you have the reigning champion LSU Tigers falling in their midweek to the in-state McNeese Cowboys in a 7-6 loss. The Tigers almost pulled it out at the end, but they came up just short with a near-homer that ended up being caught on the warning track.

Arizona State, another weekend opponent for the Aggies, crushed the no. 13 Oklahoma Sooners, 15-3. No. 5 Georgia Tech fell to Georgia State, 9-4.

All of this is to say that, while the Aggies still have a treacherous road ahead, fans should not take wins like this for granted. This past weekend was big for the Aggies, and so was this game— heading into a tough weekend at 8-0 gives A&M plenty of momentum.
