Texas A&M baseball shows improvement in series loss to Kentucky, but time is running out for Aggies to make strides
Texas A&M baseball finally got their first SEC win of the season on Friday, and it came in a way that many fans had been wishing for for quite some time. Even though the starting pitching was a letdown— uncharacteristic of this team so far this season— the Aggie bats came through in a big way, which was also uncharacteristic.
The Aggies ended up triumphing in that game for a much-needed home SEC victory. The reinsertion of the heretofore-injured Caden Sorrell was a huge boon in the game, without a doubt; the man hit a homer at his first at-bat of the year, which was enough to blow the lid off of the place.
The second game of the series, for a while, looked like it would be pretty similar to the first. However, the bullpen for the Aggies faltered where it had held strong previously (being without Josh Stewart is really killing the Ags so far this year), and the Wildcats took the second game.
The rubber match today saw the Cats enter in cruise control while A&M was tentative. The Ags stacked a few runs down the stretch, but this one was firmly in Kentucky's control the whole way.
We also saw this... interesting exchange between UK's Nick Mingione and Michael Earley.

This tiff was apparently over a curfew rule that was in place for Kentucky. The Wildcats couldn't start any inning in a game later than 4:30 local time thanks to the travel needed to get back to Lexington, and they were dawdling in progressing the game in the bottom of the 8th as that time approached, calling a couple of mound visits.
Still, it's not a great look here. This loss drops the Aggies to 1-7 in conference and below .500 overall once again. With a series on the road against Tennessee upcoming, it's getting harder to see how A&M will even qualify for the postseason— an unthinkable notion just months ago.
