Texas A&M basketball is going through the best rebuild we've ever seen in school history. Don't look now, but Bucky McMillan isn't wasting any time through some long-term project getting his guys. He's got his guys to take the torch now.

That torch is historic. It belonged to the school's all-time leading scorer, Wade Taylor IV. Taylor IV was everything the Aggies could've asked for— an electrifying player who would pull it from deep whenever he'd want to. Zhuric Phelps, who was a ginormous help for scoring, was a part of the SMU-Texas A&M series on the Mustangs side before transferring to Aggieland.

Now, SMU and Texas A&M will take the hardwood for the third time in the last four seasons. It's part of Texas A&M's non-conference schedule that will already include UCF, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh and Florida State.

Aggies get non-conference game with Mustangs once again

The Mustangs have been slowly improving as a basketball program for the last couple of years. The Ponies lost in the second round of the NIT Tournament last year, which was a step forward for them. Even though the Aggies have dominated the Mustangs in the last two matchups, McMillan's team will be a new experiment for everyone.

The SEC competition will be another gauntlet for Texas A&M, especially with McMillan's first run in the SEC. Aggies fans should believe in him, as he's been one of the hottest non-Power Four coaches in the country.

The non-conference schedule will be just as important in this case for this season at least, as we can judge how McMillan's team can compete against the SEC pack.
