It hasn't taken long for the new look Texas A&M Aggies basketball team to make an impression, as Bucky McMillan has this squad atop the SEC standings.
It's a long season, but Texas A&M is already defying the odds without Mackenzie Mgbako, arguably their best player, who suffered a season-ending injury. College basketball analyst and writer Andy Katz has a new Power 37 rankings this week, and A&M fans will love it.
The Aggies are getting noticed, but they have three ranked teams in their next three matchups, two of them on the road. If they can somehow get a dub on at least two of those, this Aggie team will go from a pretender to a contender in the SEC.
Texas A&M basketball ranked 22 on Andy Katz's Power 37 rankings
The Aggies have won three straight and look like they are rolling, but they have to get through Georgia, Alabama and Florida, the defending national champions.
The Aggies are also going to play Vanderbilt on Valentine's Day, which will be another test, so the next four or five in reality will be a gauntlet. This won't be easy for the Aggies, but they've done what they've needed to and then some, including a crazy finish against Auburn.
Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn and Tennessee are right in front of the Ags. So, the good guys are in the thick of everything, but they need some Quad 1 wins to prove themselves more— and their wins over Auburn and Texas just keep looking better and better.
Still a long way to go, but this is great stuff from Texas A&M basketball and Bucky McMillan to start with. They can crack the top 25 if the Aggies can beat two of the next three teams.
