Texas A&M basketball inches closer to one-seed line after big college basketball weekend
Texas A&M basketball is in the midst of a renaissance this season. The Aggies are one of the top teams in the entire nation this year, thanks in no small part to an experienced core of players who have been in Buzz Williams' program for a long time, supplemented by a smattering of key transfers from the portal this past offseason.
The Aggies have leveraged that potent mix to amass a 20-5 record so far this season, and have thus far gone 9-3 in the toughest league in the land, the SEC. Two of those losses came without Wade Taylor IV, the team's leading scorer, and one was without Solomon Washington, the team's best defender, for most of the game.
As the Ags keep winning, though, they keep moving up in the AP Poll as you would expect. The Aggies emerged from last weekend at number 8 and went 2-0 in their pair of games against Georgia and Arkansas, so they were bound to move up— especially since Purdue, the team ranked right ahead of the Aggies despite losing to the Maroon and White earlier in the year, lost last week.
That suspicion bore out, as the Aggies took a step forward and into the seven spot.

The Ags are behind Houston, Tennessee, Duke, Florida, Alabama, and Auburn. Three of those teams are left on the schedule for Texas A&M basketball, as they will host Tennessee on Saturday before a trip to Gainesville the following week. A midweek visit from Auburn follows that up, as well.
This stretch run is a complete gauntlet for the Aggies, but they have the right stuff to get the job done. This is a team that can rise as high this year as any Aggie team ever has— and I can't wait to see it happen.
