Texas A&M basketball notches hard-fought top 25 victory over Creighton
Rebounds, rebounds, and more rebounds.
Texas A&M basketball did exactly what they were supposed to in taking a 77-73 victory over Creighton.
This is a big victory in terms of the historic nature for the Aggies. Creighton basketball has become a championship caliber team in recent years.
The Aggies and Buzz Williams went back to their original identity in their victory tonight.
Texas A&M's physicality was simply too much for Creighton
Part of A&M's win came from stellar defense.
Ryan Kalkbrenner, one of the best college players in the nation, was held to nine points in the game. As expected, he would grab 10 boards, but his ability to not even get many shots off is what Williams should be proud of.
Henry Coleman III had some thoughts on defending Kalkbrenner in the postgame press conference.
"For us, we just wanted to have crazy ball pressure. I thought the guards were unbelievable at that tonight. And just being physical with him. (Kalkbrenner) an unbelievable player," Coleman III said.
The rebounding favored the Aggies 48-37. The offensive rebounding was the major impact, with the Aggies grabbing 21 offensive boards. Creighton had only 11.
The Aggies have been known to be physical with teams. They need to continue to perform in that same manner come January.
The Aggies also corrected their mistake from Oregon's loss, forcing Creighton to go cold this time down the stretch.
Coleman III, Solomon Washington, and Jace Carter were the big guys helping the Aggies grab second chance opportunities. Coleman III and Washington got four of them. Carter got five offensive boards.
The Aggies move to 5-2 on the season. They'll finish off the Players Era Festival on Saturday.
