Texas A&M basketball reportedly targeting Syracuse big man transfer Eddie Lampkin

With only one player currently on the roster, Texas A&M basketball is having to take a long, hard look at the portal in order to find a team for the upcoming year. New coach Bucky McMillan certainly has his work cut out for him, and A&M fans are eyeing his performance here as a bellwether for how things are to go in year one of Bucky Ball.

Now, many are willing to grade McMillan on a curve given the hardships he's facing: an extremely bare cupboard, coming to A&M in the midst of the portal cycle, and other factors have created an environment where it will be tough to build a year-one contender.

But there's no doubt that Bucky wants such a contender in his first season in Reed, and he's ready to make some big swings in the portal. One such big swing— quite literally— is a name that many Aggie fans may be familiar with.

Lampkin, despite coming from Syracuse, spent quite a bit of time at TCU, where he made a name for himself thanks to his scoring prowess and huge frame. Skilled bigs don't exactly grow on trees in college basketball, so if Bucky could bring in a guy of Lampkin's stature, it bodes quite well for the future.

There's also a maturity factor, as Lampkin is pushing 24 years old. Experience at this level would do wonders for this team in several respects as the Aggies are trying to build from the ground up.

At the same time, though, you can see that the list of suitors for Eddie Lampkin is a healthy one. The Aggie staff in Reed will have their work cut out for them, without a doubt.

You don't want to overspend on NIL when it comes to players simply out of a sense of urgency to get a guy on the roster. The eventual destination and asking price for Lampkin will be telling— but if the stars align to get him to College Station, it would be quite the boost for the Aggies.
