Texas A&M basketball executes Buzz Williams' plea to perfection and rebound more

Texas A&M head basketball coach Buzz Williams told the media that it would be a priority for his team to rebound more. It's safe to say they did just that against the Horns.

The strong defense and rebounding definitely made up for poor perimeter shooting as the Aggies shot 2-19 from deep, which is basically 11 percent. Usually a number like that would not make a case to win a basketball game, especially in today's basketball world.

One key big man moment came in the middle of the second half with the Aggies in full momentum with Solomon Washington got a block and nearly trash talked one of the Longhorn players. Washington answered Williams' call to grab more boards, and ended up with 10 of them.

Pharrel Payne might be the story of the night though. Payne finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and ended the rivalry game with a ferocious jam from a beautiful lob from Zhuric Phelps.

Payne has become one of the driving forces in the perfect position by being the biggest energy guy off the bench. He expressed that after the game.

Wade Taylor IV played 25 minutes on the night along with a groin issue that sidelined him late in the second half, but he eventually came back in. Taylor IV not having to play even 30 minutes proves that the Aggies have a proven identity when Taylor IV is either resting or just off his game.

Williams addressed those same shooting concerns after the game in a way of saying he's not going to forget about that side of the game just yet.

The Aggies are walking home with some hardware and a strong start in SEC play. They'll play in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners, who just suffered their first loss of the season against the Alabama Crimson Tide. That game against the Sooners will take place on Jan. 8 at 8:00 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
